I'm Costanza, an Environmental Policy student at UC Davis trying to comprehend our anthropogenic mistakes that are causing climate change and the 6th mass extinction while looking for local and global solutions. During my college career, a lot of my professors have made me hopeless trying to change our "inevitable" doom, but I learned that the only way to withstand climate anxiety is to think of actions that people like you and me are able to make.
I joined Sunrise Movement this past summer and I have become so much more connected to a community of individuals that are appropriately freaking out and taking action. For the first time I was given an opportunity to stand for what I believe in. My first experience with this organization included standing in the DNC and marching down the streets of San Francisco demanding a climate debate. Back at my local hub in Davis I've primarily dedicated my time to being a Strike Circle Host. These weekly meetings allow individuals to become familiar with the movement and focus on People Power to match Political Power, in other words, the Green New Deal.
In addition to participating with Sunrise I think about other potential projects to take in order to get more people to understand the complexity of this problem and applying their expertise. A problematic part of recruiting is that it will first target those who are already in the "environmental" community....having one group of people learn more about the problem isn't as effective as providing the problem to people from different experiences and backgrounds. I'm looking at the process to require a Climate Change class at my school which is focused for different fields and project-based...
